The ICSSC will conduct the the second Fundamentals of International Clinical Research Workshops of 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand, September 19-24.The first training was held in January in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Once again we expect participants from a wide range of countries to
attend. The workshop will incorporate both lecture and group exercises.
Specific topics covered will include:
• Fundamentals of the research process
• Study design
• Protocol development
• Data management
• Statistical analysis
• Discussions on international research ethics
• Managing and implementing clinical studies
• Designing and managing adverse event reporting systems
• Specific information on Good Clinical Practices
• Practical information on NIH requirements for research
This workshop will be offered again in South America in early 2011.
The 2010 IRID meeting was held Tuesday, May 18-Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. This meeting serves to recognize NIAID’s commitment to collaborative partnerships between: (1) U.S. scientists and investigators from disease endemic areas; (2) NIAID and other government agencies with interests in tropical disease research; and (3) academic scientists and private industry/ foundations. There were 37 oral presentations and 27 poster presentations at the meeting. Research findings on a wide range of diseases, including malaria, chagas, leishmaniasis and dengue were presented along with presentations on new drugs for neglected diseases and mobile microscopy.
IRID 2011 and 2012: Save the dates!
